We were so busy that I totally forgot to post my weekly totals! I think my kids have a better social life than I do 🙂
I just put my totals together and this is the first time in quite a while where what I paid does not match what I should have paid! I typically know almost to the penny what I should pay but I had one of those less than amusing check out experiences that we all deal with at some point! My cashier decided to take it upon himself to cancel some of my coupons and I ended up needing customer service twice during my agonizing, one child crying, one child begging to see the DVD’s, screwy cashier check out experience!!
I actually paid less than I should have and I will owe Publix $2. So this week I should have paid $10.81 for $140.15 worth of merchandise! That means I saved 93% this week! I will admit that most of the stuff I bought this week was completely uneccesary! I could not resist using that GM coupon and stocked up on snacks and such! I mean who can pass up free cookies, warm delights, and frosting!! I also got a bunch of Yakisoba that immediately donated to the store as I really just wanted the overage 🙂
Here is what I got for $10.81 ($8.81 + $2 that I owe Publix)

How did you do this week? Leave a comment or link to your weekly totals:
I recently started following your blog, since the economics of our household changed and I figured any help in saving us money at Publix (our favorite store) would be good. After seeing this post, I’m not so sure.
“I will admit that most of the stuff I bought this week was completely uneccesary!” I’m stunned by that admittance, it’s wrong on so many levels, and I don’t even know how to put into words how distasteful that seems to me. I don’t mean this to be a flame on a public forum, but there doesn’t seem to be any other way to contact you on this website. I can’t wrap my mind around that attitude of crowing about obtaining food you have no desire for, simply because you can, while people are going hungry, people who may be your neighbors. I won’t be following your blog in the future.
Hi Joseph
I appreciate your honest opinion–snacks and “junk” food are NOT neccesities in my household–plain and simple. They are treats but in no way necessary to keep my family members nourished! I openly admit to buying things that I don’t need or want OFTEN as a means to get things that I do need for my family. I did not need the Yakisoba noodles but I did WANT the $3+ overage as that will cover a gallon of milk that my family DOES need! I can’t even begin to list the massive quanitity of items that I have bought at Publix, CVS or Walgreens as a TOOL to get other things that I do need. This is a common method used by couponers and I am not at all ashamed of it! The best part of this is that I now have the ability to give to others in massive quantities with little to no impact on my wallet!! Couponing has allowed me to donate and give like I have never before! It is a win/win situation. Again–I did not need those Yakisoba noodles–but the bag boy at my store was very thankful to get those 16 packages!! So–yes I buy LOTS of things that are completely unecessary to my household but thankfully I am able to give to others who do find the items necessary!
Also–there is a big button on my right sidebar that says “click to email me” where you can reach me via email. have a nice day 🙂
I completely agree about donating food I have no use for, but get for free or extrememly cheaply. I do this as well since I have begun couponing. I do not see this as wasteful or distasteful. I use the overages towards other groceries that my family does need. If it is just free with no overage it still is worth getting as I can donate it to a food bank at my church.
I will even get baby items that I can obtain free or for a quarter and donate them to either a woman’s help place for single mothers that need help or to drives that are collecting baby items.
I love your blog and it helps me save even more than I could on my own. Keep up the good work.
I spent $24.24 for $215.42 worth, saved $191.18 = 89%
As to the above…DITTO what Michelle said!
Just curious to know if all the GM coupons were used in one transaction or over multiple transcactions?
Hi,
I am a big fan of this website and would like to make a simple comment regarding James’ opinion. I have been couponing for several months. There are hundreds (maybe thousands) of sites out there dedicated to couponing. This is one of the few sites where the facilitator is not boasting of buying every single item on the shelf and the profits of reselling at a personal garage sale. Yes, I have bought stuff I did not need because it was free or had an overage. None of it went to waste. A true couponer understands the importance of need and want. I do not know any of the woman associated with this site, except for what they have shared. But James, I do know you are barking up the wrong tree and your gonna miss out on some sweet deals too!!!
I have the same question as Val. My store would only allow one. Thanks for your website!
11/1-11/8
This weeks summary:
Publix
Total savings: $90.39
OOP: $12.30
I did do multiple trips but I also was allowed to use several GM Q’s in one transaction as well (approved by my store 🙂 )
You handled that first comment very well, Michelle! Kudos to you for your classy response!
What are the GM Q’s that you refer to up above? I’m not familiar with this coupon.
I paid $46.07 and saved $120.14. I bought 67 items and brought my per item cost down to 69 cents. Of all of those items, thirty-two of them will be donated to a food bank, including the Betty Crocker potatoes and the Hunt’s canned tomatoes. On those thirty-two items, I spent about $11. Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, Michelle!
I think you do a great service to the public-you have been a true blessing to my family in our recent unemployment fiasco. People don’t seem to realize the simple concept-manufacturer’s want you to buy their product-the stores get reimbursed-they want your business-and no one around a serious couponer goes hungry. I have donated bag after bag of food…..Joseph will be sorry cause you have it going on!!!lol
What coupon did you use for the yakisoba soup mm?
I don’t know about the GM Q. Please tell me.
This is the first time I have used your website, but it will definitely not be my last. I am an avid Publix fan, and I shop to save. Thanks for all the great tips, after reading your blog post I have added a few things to my grocery list.
Great website – I was referred to it by the checker at Publix today. I was shocked and amazed at how much money you guys are saving – I am not new to using coupons but this takes things to a whole new level. I would love to be able to save that much but the whole process seems a little daunting – any suggestions on where I can find some “how to” info so I can get started on saving money?! Thanks!
I would also like to know what GM coupons are too! Thanks!
