Thanks so much Stephanie!!
Just a friendly reminder on the B1G2 meat coupons. My Central Florida Publix will only take them on their items if they are “worded” exactly as it states on the Q. Example: Publix does not carry Angus beef and would not allow this Q to be used on their bottom round roast. Never tried the Tilapia though? Not sure if it would work because they are not pre packaged at my Publix. I have had luck with B1G2 pork tenderloins, petite sirloins and loin chops. You’ll pay for the highest priced and get the next 2 free. Hope this helps ๐
Amber, try another Publix! I’m also in Central Florida, and my CS manager allows “angus” coupons to be used.
I bought fresh tilapia at Publix the week before last when it was on sale for $5.99/lb using an Albie’s coupon. They just package three 1lb portions separately. I checked with customer service before I went back to get it, just to be sure. It never hurts to ask.
Oooh! You guys are soo lucky. I’m so jealous that I might just try it at another Publix around here. Where in Central Florida is yours?
I’m in west Orlando and have about 5 Publix in a 5 mile radius of me. The one in Ocoee/Good Homes Rd. and on Hiawassee/MetroWest are great about taking Albertson’s coupons.
I have used the Tilapia, the pork steaks, petite sirloin and country ribs. Publix does not carry seasoned chicken breast or St Louis style ribs.
just curious-is there an advantage to using these at publix vs. just using them at albertsons?
You can use the Albertsons coupons at any Publix but now you will be charged Albertsons
price which is considerably higher. For example: Publix 21/25 count white shrimp are regularly priced at $8.99/lb and go on sale for $5.99 and even $4.99/lb. Albertsons price for the same shrimp is$12.99 – $14.99/lb. Where is the bargain if you waste 45 minutes of your time and a buck or two in gas running into Albertsons to get the coupons (if you can find one) and then running to Publix to use the coupons. Publix seafood (and meat in general) is much higher quality that Albertsons. Most of Albertsons meats are treated with a tenderizing soultion(salt water) and their seafood is treated with Sulfites which makes it retain water and plump up.(Read the labels) But alas, use the coupons while you can because rumor has it that Albertsons is pulling out of Florida completely in the second fiscal quarter of 2010.
Albertson’s meat is scrap. I get their ad in the Sentinel as well, so no going out of my way. I hate Albie’s but I’m going to be bummed if they leave because I’ve used the heck out of that $5/$50 and occasionally the meat coupons. I’m sure Publix won’t be sad to see them go! I’ve never had an issue with them price matching the meat to Albie’s. How do they know how much it is?? Recently I’ve started to go to Winn-Dixie (another store I greatly dislike) to pick up a few items just to get the $10/$50 Catalina so I guess I won’t be that bad off ๐
Uhh? I HEART PUBLIX! Need we say more? But seriously, my Publix butcher states that they have much higher quality meats. Plus, I prefer to do all my shopping in one place and Publix takes other comp Qs as well. I’ve heard the meat quality comparison before and actually went to Albertson’s to see for myself. My conclusion……I HEART PUBLIX ๐
PS – My Albertsons Q’s just come with my Wednesday Orlando Sentinel. I have yet to be charged a different price than Publix posts in their store but I have wondered if it will last. Thanks for the head’s up Diane, you seem to be in teh knwo so I hope you’ll keep us up to date ๐
Wow! Look at all my typos? I’m off to bed. No more sleepy bargain hunting:)
Hurry up and get in the bed, before you try to spell something else.
Deedee, Publix does in fact carry St. Louis Ribs. They are $4.99 per pound. I use the Albertson’s coupons all the time for those. If there are none on the shelf, ask the butcher. Sometimes they run out, but normally they carry them.
One more point about the St. Louis ribs…..These are NOT the seasoned ribs. They are the St. Louis CUT. Publix does not carry the seasoned ones, but then again, Albertson’s doesn’t either, to the best of my knowledge. I went into an Alb. to check the ribs that were buy one get 2 and found that the ones on sale were the Hormel frozen ribs.
About the Angus beef….My friend is a meet cutter at Publix on Good Holmes Rd and said they would not honor the coupons for Angus products as they do not carry them. I am going to check the store at Hunt Club. That manager at Hunt Club is BIIIIGGGGG on customer service.
