All of us have a favorite recipe or meal that we make on special occasions or as a splurge. Maybe you like a good steak dinner or maybe you have a favorite lasagna that calls for really expensive imported cheeses. Here at my house we do what we call a low country boil–it is so delicious but it can be quite pricey! We put crab or lobster, shrimp, crawfish, sausage, potatoes, carrots and corn in our boil. Oh my it is so good but we can easily spend $50 to make that one meal.
While I can’t come over and cook for you I can cover the cost of your meal 🙂 I am going to give one reader a $50 Publix gift card so you can make YOUR favorite splurge meal!!
To enter just tell me your favorite splurge meal 🙂
I will choose a winner on Friday 3/19 around 11pm via Random.org. You must comment on this post–emailed entries will not be accepted!
Our favorite is a great steak and homemade potato soup. The soup recipe makes a stockpot full so its pretty pricey but its definitely our favorite!
Favorite splurge meal would be bacon wrapped filet, potatoes, and salad. Can’t go wrong with that. Yum! That may be what I’m making for my 8th anniversary at the end of the month.
Once a month we have Filet mignon and baked potatoes. I marinade the steaks in terriaky sauce, soy sauce, pineapple juice, minced garlic, and cummin powder for a couple hours. Its fantastic and we somehow always end up with company when I make them.
we love to do a HUGE shrimp boil in the summer with fresh shrimp, potatoes, and corn on the cob!! YUMMY, would love to win and enjoy this dinner sometime soon.
My family is large and Irish. Whenever we can, we go for nice steaks and potatoes!
Some beautiful rubeye steaks cooked medium on the grill with grilled white asparagus and fresh ceasar salad. Then top off the meal with some fresh berries and cream.
We love to splurge on Crab cakes. Lowcountry Boil is another fav!!!
My favorite meal would be grilled delmonico steaks with baked potatoes! YUMMO! 🙂
I Love to make Beef Tenderloin with balsamic reduction and gorgonzola, steamed garlic spinach… A nice glass of red wine.
So many generous giveaways! 🙂 I would LOVE to be able to use the gift card to buy all the needed ingredients for 2 dishes with many of the same ingredients that we absolutely love! Incidentally my husband actually makes both of them! One is homemade from scratch shrimp alfredo, the other is also from scratch shrimp scampii. In addition to the delicious fresh shrimp dinners we also would probably make fresh coconut shrimp w/our homemade batter. Oh yummy I’m getting hungry just thinking about it!
Baked ribs
chez mash potatoes
large stuff portabello mushrooms
oreo/cream cheese balls
We make steak with onions and mushrooms, shrimp cocktail, baked potatoes and ceaser salad. 🙂 Laura
We love to splurge on crab legs and scallops. Would love to win.
I like to make meatball subs. Basically I make parmesan meatballs and put them in hot dog buns with spaghetti sauce, them melt mozzarella cheese on top of them.
Filet mignon for me!!
I love to have a bbq/Fish fry with my extended family. 50 bucks at publix can go a long way. Just in time for spring. Great for fish frys. Thanks
Crab Cakes are a favorite here!
My husband makes the best marinated skirt steak, potatoes and whatever else he cooks up. It is so yummy but we dont have it that often b/c of the price of the meat 🙁
Breaded Veal Cutlets. Yum!
Ribeye, asparagus, garlic mashed potatoes and a good bottle of red wine – yum!
Our favorite splurge is Tuna (not the canned stuff, the beautiful dark brown filets in the Seafood case). Love to make it with asparagus and hollandaise and a mixed salad with baked almond-crusted slices of goat cheese on top. Can’t you just hear the cha-ching of the cash register on this one? LOL. Thanks, Michelle!
Steak, baked potatoes, and salad is an all time favorite that we rarely have.
My splurge meal would be grilled tuna steaks or grilled salmon with a fresh salad. Can’t wait for warm weather to start the grill up.
My husband’s favorite meal is steak. He (and I, too) love red meat, but we don’t eat it very often, because the cuts he likes are so expensive! He really likes a huge tri tip. I like to serve it with roasted potatoes and corn on the cob… and maybe an artichoke for me (he hates them!)
We’re a vegan family, so aside from tons of fresh produce, most of our meals are pretty reasonable in cost. I do like dabbling in raw cooking though, which can get pricey. Many of the snacks I like to keep on-hand for the kids – from our favorite Lara(like) bar snacks to raw “cheese” logs – seem to require large quantities of expensive nuts.
My most favorite splurge meal is rib-eye steaks done up with garlic powder, Worcestershire sauce, season salt, salt and pepper, with potatoes, onions, carrots and butter in a foil pack on the grill. Add some garlic bread – MMMMMM. Steaks are expensive these days though so this is something we don’t get very much.
Thanks for the giveaways!
Lobsters from the tank in the seafood dept and fresh asparagus!
Our favorite splurge meal is surf & turf! That usually includes some nice steaks and/or big delicious shrimp as the main course. Those things can get pretty pricey! We mix up the sides but one option is just mashed or baked potatoes and a side salad.
Pernil with homemade cilantro salsa and red beans and rice! Yummmm!!
My favorite splurge meal is a date-night dinner out! But if I win the $50 Publix gift card I’m sure I can find something nice to make too. 😉
Porterhouse steaks, shrimp, baked potato and strawberry cheesecake.
I like to make a fruit appetizer with lots of fresh blueberries which gets pricey (at least by our IheartPublix/Saving Money standards!).
Once a month my family loves to get crab legs and shrimp. have a steak with it as well. Makes for a great treat.
OH, our favorite ‘splurge’ meal would definitely be steak (filet is our fave!), baked potatoes, salad, rolls and dessert.
I can’t tell you the last time we bought a really good steak. So hard to spend that $$!
We LOVE making steak, asparagus, and potatoes au gratin from scratch…definitely expensive, but SO good!
I would LOVE this!!! It would be a juge blessing!!!! My favorite meal is steak and potaotes!!! We raise our own beef, so that is not in with the price…..but I SEE TURF and SURF!!!! We have “splurged” and have gotten the Seapack Shrimp when BOGO and with coupons of course!!! But I have never tried LOBSTER!!!! WOW that would be awesome!!!
Happy Saving
Stacey
Crab boils are definitely our favorite…same as your with shrimp and corn and sometimes crawfish. But we love to have all kinds of sides, shrimp and grits, fried fish and baked beans.
Steak and Potatoes!
Our favorite splurge meal is grilled steaks, shrimp, baked potato, salad and french bread. We only have this meal on New Years Eve because it is so pricey.
When I splurge, I usually buy a couple of filet mignon’s or ribeyes and a few big shrimp for grilling. There also has to be a yummy dessert – something chocolate, of course!
Kabobs with tenderloin and fresh vegetables!
we really enjoy a nice thick filet mignon…..angus beef preferred with some huge grilled shripm….yum!
we splurge on baby back ribs, 2 sides and all the trimmings can easily add up to $40+
My husband loves me making homemade sushi! The cost of all those fresh veggies and fish add up fast.
My favorite splurge meal is real stroganoff! Steak, mushrooms, garlic, onions, wheat noodles, red wine and sour cream, served with salad and good bread and of course the rest of the wine, lol. Thanks girl, I heart you!
Steak, shrimp and a good salad:)
My favorite is Lasagna!
I just read some of the comments…I have to agree with quite a few of them, my favorite splurge meal is ribeye steak, baked sweet potatoe, and asparagus. Yummy. We are so frugal right now if I had ribeye it would get cut up to make several meals from it. So to just eat a steak would be so splurge!
We absolutely love cuban boliche, but it just costs so much to make we only have it once or twice a year.
Our favorite splurge meal is grilled steaks, shrimp, baked potato, salad and french bread. We only have this meal on New Years Eve because it is so pricey. I would love to have your receipe for the low country boil. Thanks.
Love to splurge on Filet Mignon!!!! With baked potatoes and asparagus on the grill! Yummy!!
My favorite splurge meal is muffaletas! Olive salad, provolone, capicola, salami, mortadella, emmentaler–so expensive!
Filet mignon with a cabernet wine sauce and a bottle of red.
Steak, asparagus and bernaise sauce with french fries! YUM!
Smoked Ribs and or Ribeye, wine, any side!!! 🙂
Steak, shrimp and baked potatoes is a favorite, but one we don’t do very often.
Ok, our favorite “slurg” meal is marinated ribeye grilled steak, bacon wrapped buttered grilled jumbo shrimp, green salad with all the extras (romaine lettuce, croutons, bacon bits, cheese, fresh muchrooms, purple onion, sunflower seeds, radish and fresh cauliflower and brocoli) and garlic french bread. Yum! Hungry just thinking about it! We don’t get to do this very often because it is rather expensive for a family of four, so hope I win! Thanks for another great give-a-way!
My splurge is seafood – depending on what I can get at the market. lump crabmeat, tuna, wahoo, shrimp are some of my favorites. And, for dessert, banana pudding. Makes me hungry just thinking about it!
Love to do Ribeye steaks (the big thick ones) in the cast iron skillet in the oven – cover them with kosher salt and cracked pepper. Serve it with corn on the cob and a baked potato – yum!
Filet mignon on the grill, hands down! With asparagus risotto and broccoli souffle. Yum!
Ours is simple, but good! A good ribeye steak with A1 and blue cheese, twice baked potatoes with Colby Jack cheese, a big caeser salad and freshly baked potato rolls, followed by chewy brownie sundaes. Makes my mouth watering just thinking about it!
Our splurge is a mixed seafood alfredo (crab, crayfish, shrimp, and scallops) over squid ink pasta. We splurge on this every New Year’s Eve for dinner. I order the pasta and make the sauce from scratch. Yummo!!
My favorite is your favorite! Low country boil is awesome. We also really like to get down on crab legs and artichokes. I know it’s a weird combo, but it’s a tradition.
That splurge meal is actually for my husband because I am not a fan of seafood. Crab legs, shrimp and lobster!
Alaskan Salmon… so nice, so exspensive.
Our favorite splurge meal is seafood… low country boil, jambalya, lobster, we love it all
Hmmm….it’s so hard to pick just one!!
We love to make pot roast!
My favorite splurge meal is a quiche that is referred to as cheesecake because it is so decadent! There are so many different types of expensive cheeses in it that I only make it on very special occasions, but it is so heavenly!!
For this time of the year is a Crawfish boil. While the potatoes and corn aren’t too pricey, buying all of that crawfish means big bucks.
It depends what we are in the mood for but we will do steak or my favorite….lobster OR scallops wrapped in bacon and shrimp YUM!!!
Steak and potatoes for my family!
My husband loves steak and seafood and it is so expensive that we don’t do it often.
Definitely grilled white fish with crabmeat tomato sauce on top. It is pricey b/c of all of the Fresh lump crab meat, but so delicious! Would love to have this!!!!!!!
Our favorite mael is a country boil as well! We’ve never added lobster, though, and put tons of Old Bay!
We love a good ribeye baked potatoe and salad.
Oh you are just awesome today 🙂 I do have two fav. meals that I hardly make cause to my standarts they are expensive; one is Rouladen; I’m german and rouladen is just my fav; the gravy packs are only avialable online and are about $3 each adn we need about 3 of them, so with a Publix GC we could buy the stuff we usually need and save enough so I could take some of my savings and order the gravy packs to go with the breakfast steak and Potato Dumplings…yummo my second meal is Pizza bread, nothing fancy but you use fresh french bread, cut up mushrooms, and ham and add heavy cream mix it all up, add gouda cheese ( that’s where the expense comes in, it has to be the big chunk one….) bake it in the oven..ohh soo yummy… but we splerge only if I HAVE to have it …. I love gouda my fav, just can’t understand why it’s so expensive here….
Would love to have the money to bring a little bit from home back…:-)
Thanks
King crab legs with loaded baked potatoes and roasted asparagus- yum!
Thanks for the fantastic giveaway 🙂
Definitely an Italian meal. Lasagna is the best, and you are right, it is not cheap to make. Thanks!
Beautiful rib-eye steaks that we put an espresso rub on and grill to perfection. Maybe some manchengo cheddar mashed potatoes and a big gourmet salad with veggies galore. In a dream world, my hubby would make his famous s’more brownies for dessert (but those are easily made with coupon-friendly ingredients).
This would be great! Money is tight at my house.
Favorite Splurge Meal:
Steak, My specialty potatoes, Broccoli, & Cheesecake
hmmmmm. my favorite splurge meal would have to be shrimp & scallop fetucini with scratch made alfredo, fresh garlic bread, & ceasar salad with scratch made ceasar dressing! yum, yum, yum!!!

Baked brie…. lobster pasta… mac & cheese with tomatoes and prosciutto… there’s just too darn many to pick one. 🙂
Our favorite would be boiled crab legs and shrimp!
We’ve been trying to pay off our debt since last year, so I haven’t splurged on a meal in a LONG time! But if I could, I would probably make some kind of pasta dish…or I might buy some steaks and let my husband cook them on the grill.
MMM… we are students right now so anything is a splurge, but I would say steak is always our splurge.
We love Filet Mignon with twiced baked potatoes, asparagus with a wonderful hollandaise sauce and a triple layer chocolate homemade cake.

Hmm… favorite splurge… Would have to be my husband’s chicken au poivre. It’s sooooo good! He learned how to make it when he worked in a French restaurant. We cook it together now. It’s not super expensive, but it’s definitely a splurge in calories! 😮 LOL
One of our favorite things to splurge on would be filet mignon with homemade mac & cheese. We grill the filets with bacon wrapped around them, and my hubby makes the mac & cheese with mascarpone, which is usually a little too expensive for a cheapskate like me to buy!
Fresh Maine lobster baked and stuffed with shrimp, crab and scallops!
We LOVE shrimp!!! Even the kids think its the greatest thing ever. When I’m really splurging I’ll get some filets for DH & I.
My favorite splurge meal is a nice ribeye steak with cracked pepper hunters sauce, twice baked potato, asparagus, garlic bread, and a bottle of Shiraz for the hubby!

definitely a tender, juicy NY strip steak with grilled asparagus, baked sweet potatoes, and a lovely salad with cranberries, strawberries, walnuts, and feta. Yum. My mouth is watering just thinking about it!

Appetizer – Fried Calamari
Main Course – Herbed Ribeye with rosemary roasted potatoes and garden vegetables
Desert – Brownie with maple butter and vanilla ice cream

My favorite splurge meal is standing rib roast. I have a wonderful recipe and we usually try to have this at Christmas. It would be nice to be able to have it when it is just my family with 2x baked potatoes and a bottle of my favorite red wine.
I would love to splurge on my famous spinach dip. Contains, shrimp, crawfish tales, feta cheese. These items are pricey and can’t usually make enough to fill up the family. $50.00 worth of this stuff would make my kids very happy.
Steak! Yum. That is a rare dinner for a family of our size!
ohhh I’ll have to go with the shrimp boil too! Very expensive but soooo good!
Baby back ribs, started in the oven and finished on the grill!
Goat cheese and veggie Risotto with white truffle oil! it’s divine, but take a lot of TLC to make as we all know Risotta is high maintenance!
a crown roast for Easter would be awesome!
My husband is a vegetarian and my son is picky about meat, so for me a splurge is definitely on steak and some wine to go with it. He eats a lot of Morningstar Farm and Boca products, which aren’t cheap when you buy a lot, so his favorite meal at home is chicken enchilada casserole made with veggie chicken products.
I would buy some Greenwise organic meat and fresh veggies and grill out with my family–and we’d split a yummy Ice Cream Cake for dessert!
a good steak, baked potatoes and corn on the cob, all cooked on the grill!
steak with baby veggies and a great chocolate cake to finish the meal
LOVE! making homemade crabcakes with genuine lump crap meat.
Love seafood !!
We load up the grill with barbecue ribs and grill some corn. It isnt REALLY that expensive, but the splurge is taking the time to prepare it & the clean-up afterwards…so we save it for special occassions.
Favorite Splurge: Steak-Kabobs. YUM! We use high quality steak, so it doesn’t fall apart on the skewer. Add in Red/yellow/green peppers. Onions. Mushrooms. Baste in Jerk Sauce. YUM! 🙂
My spluge meal would be a red fish sauce that I make that takes mussels, clams, shrimp, fettucine with a side of garlic bread!
My favorite splurge meal is a giant pork tenderloin cooked with saurkraut and served over mashed potatoes. We dont make it often because of the price of the meat required.

King crab legs and fresh salad, with cornbread and mac and cheese on the side…sort of an odd combo but really good
Filet mignon, lobster, a fabulous salad and some good wine!
Steak is our splurge meal! We normally buy steak only twice a year, once at our anniversary and once during the summer. With four kids – it gets pricey!
What a wonderful idea! In the past, my family has been lucky to enjoy life in a few states where fresh live crawfish was the norm. We have also lived where we could drive a block or two to the dock and buy fresh shrimp straight from the boats as they arrived to the shore for about $2.00 a pound and these were large shrimp! So we miss the flavor of FRESH not frozen shrimp and it is quite expensive where we live now (just below the Mason-Dixon Line – so still in the South – but no where near a coast!) We would love to be able to purchase the fresh never frozen shrimp and have a huge feast!
Wow, some of these meals sound sooo good. I would make a steak dinner with all of the fixings: salad, baked potatoes, vegetables and a great grilled steak!!!
If I was to Splurge on a meal made at home, it would be Filet Mignon, Baked Potato and Salad!

Steaks for hubby, Crab cakes for me. Surf & Turf baby!!
I would LOVE to make my very much missed Crabmeat Ceviche. Since I had learned how to cook with lemon and lime juice, I have always enjoyed that healthy and non-traditional cuisine. Unfortunately, its a big time SPLURGE in my family. 🙂
My favorite is anything that includes seafood.
I think that I would have to splurge on a dessert! We love banana cream pudding made with condensed milk, pepperidge farm chess cookies, bananas, milk, pudding, etc. The cost of that dessert adds up fast so we don’t make it very often!

Filet Mignon, we have it less than once a year!
Surf and Turf and a great wine
Our favorite meal is a chicken salad with grapes and bacon and mayo, seasoned with Bragg’s liquid amino acids, fresh ginger, lemon juice, parsley, and onion powder. This is a splurge for us.

Favorite splurge is:
Hubby grills one filet for us to split and we top it off with a creamy bleu cheese butter mixture that i whip up. Then for side dishes, fresh brussels sprouts sauteed up in garlic and butter and drizzled with balsamic vinegar salt and pepper. Roasted mixed veggies – white and sweet potatoes, onion and asparagus tossed in olive oil. For dessert – fresh mixed berries with a drizzle of balsamic vinegar reduction and then topped with a dollop of mascarpone mixed with honey. TO DIE FOR! and it’s all super easy to make too… yum!

We love steaks, and we don’t have them often; but our favorite splurge is “asado”, which is smoked barbecued back ribs. The best way to cook it is outside, next to the fire, over hot coals, that’s how it gets the smoked flavor. You accompany that with chorizos, baked potatoes, baked sweet potatoes, “ensalada rusa”, tomato and lettuce salad, and cheesesticks. And for dessert, fruit salad with ice-cream, and a chocolate pie. I love standing rib roast–prime rib. Delicious and leftovers make a great soup.
Steak, baked potato and broccoli – with some wine of course!
Steaks,ribs an all the fixings..
My favorite meal is Rib Eye Steaks, baked potatoes, and fresh artichokes! While this is my favorite, we rarely eat it for three reasons….first, my kids aren’t real big fans of any meal that doesn’t have noodles and cheese in it, and second, rib eyes are not the cheapest thing in the meat department. Third, since we moved from California (where artichokes were in abundance for very cheap!) I just can’t bring myself to pay almost $3 for an artichoke.
So….this is a big time splurge meal for us. 🙂
Thanks for the chance to win!

It’s got to be a standing rib roast smoked in the outdoor smoker over mesquite. With a wonderful salad of mixed baby greens, grape tomatoes, purple onions, topped with some bacon bits and extra sharp NY or Wisconsin Cheddar. For a side twice baked potatoes with the potatoes mixed with sour cream, bacon, and some more cheddar. For bread some good rolls either from the Publix deli or some Sister Schubert’s rolls.
Perfect for a holiday or just the two of us.

Filet Mignon. OMG. I love it!
gotta love a surf & turf meal of any kind 🙂 mmm…
Filet Mignon and crab legs…The ultimate meal!!!

It’s fun to pull out frozen turkey and make turkey pilaf, turkey chili, turkey jerky! So yeah…I’m gonna’ say turkey. 🙂
Steak is our splurge.
Lasagna and homemade cheesecake
Steak and shrimp with a great bottle of wine! My mouth is watering just thinking about it!!

I absolutely love stuffed lobster with a salad and baked potato. I was born in Boston, MA and the Maine lobsters are such a good deal, but here we’re lucky if they have a sale on live lobsters. We’ll at times have to check out the current market prices, and if not too expensive, we might have some for a birthday. My mother knows how to make the stuffing and will bake the entire lobster!
