Here at my house we have been gradually changing all of our bulbs to the more energy efficient CFL products. These babies can be expensive so I snag them whenever I can find a deal!!
Angie over at Fun and Frugal Moms found the 13w GE Energy Smart 2 pack priced at $4.99 (I found the same at my store)
Use the $2/1 GE Energy Smart Target Coupon HERE with the $2/1 manufacturer coupon HERE to score each package for .99¢
Happy Earth Day!!
I found other watts for $4.99 also. Great deal!
The only Target GE coupon I can pull up is $1.50 off GE Reveal Bulb 🙁
you can also match the MQ with this Publix coupon

Thanks so much for this link! Yesterday, I found the bulbs for $4.99 and used the $2/1 MQ with your linked PQ and scored the bulbs and bag for $1.99 (bought 2 packs) One more item that I am stocked up on for the rest of the year 🙂
A warning- these bulbs contain mercury and if shattered can be hazardous to you and your children. We have elected NOT to use these bulbs in our house. I am very green, but my health and the health of my children far outweigh my green-ness. 🙂
(If one breaks, you should NEVER touch them with your bare hands, and don’t sweep it as it causes the mercury to enter the air. There’s a whole specific protocol for dealing with shattered CFL bulbs)
We’ve been using CFLs for years without problems. Like any lightbulb, a little care and common sense will prevent it from breaking. They burn out like a regular lightbulb; a little pop with a flash. Many retailers accept these for recycling (IKEA is our favorite!), so you can feel good knowing you haven’t polluted the landfill by throwing them out. In the 7/8 years we’ve used them, not one has broken (all you need to clean-up is some tape; the powder amount is miniscule). The glass is much stronger than you think. I feel good knowing we are reducing our carbon footprint, meaning a brighter future for my daughter.
BTW, these lightbulbs contains LESS Mercury than thermometers do, and the technology is allowing that number to continue to drop. And using CFLs actually reduces the amount of Mercury released into the environment. From the EPA:
Electricity use is the main source of mercury emissions in the U.S. CFLs use less electricity than incandescent lights, meaning CFLs reduce the amount of mercury into the environment. As shown in the table below, a 13-watt, 8,000-rated-hour-life CFL (60-watt equivalent; a common light bulb type) will save 376 kWh over its lifetime, thus avoiding 4.5 mg of mercury. If the bulb goes to a landfill, overall emissions savings would drop a little, to 4.0 mg. EPA recommends that CFLs are recycled where possible, to maximize mercury savings.
You can read more here.
We’ve been using them for years too, without ever having one break. The glass seems much thicker than ordinary bulbs to me, and they seem to last forever. Replacing a burned out bulb is a rare occurance now, instead of one or two every other week!
I just want people to be aware of what is in their homes. We had a few, and one was in a desk lamp which broke while I was pregnant. After looking into cleaning it, I was told, emphatically NOT to vacuum it up. Scary. And correct, it has less than an old-school thermometer, but most thermometers are digital these days, in fact, pharmacists encourage people to turn in old style bulb thermometers to their local pharmacy and upgrade to a digital.
I think it is important to have information, so putting it out there.
Does Madison, AL store take Target coupons?
Ashli,
I’m not sure about the Madison store, but every Huntsville store I have shopped at accepts them. I would think that store would too since Target is just a couple miles away:) It’s worth a try. You can always ask someone at customer service or give the store a call. HTH:)
Thank you BRANDY for the input!!!!!!!
