I am sure most of you are aware of the devastation in Tennessee from the massive flooding! My heart goes out to everyone affected. The folks in Tennessee are going to need a lot of help to recover…if you are able to help any little bit WILL make a difference.
Some of my wonderful readers have emailed me links for information and how you can help. Please consider giving if you are able.

Thanks to all of you who emailed with information!!
Thank you for posting this! I live just outside of Nashville and I can tell you the devestation here is like none I’ve ever experienced. The national news is no covering it nearly enough. My husband went to Houston and helped after the hurricane. He is comparing our flood to Houston. There are thousands left with NOTHING. So much is gone. People will need help for some time. Our amazing community is banding together, but can always use help
Thank you!
Lots of folks here need cleaning products with bleach, paper towels, toilet paper, bottled water and tons more.
If you see any printables or deals for these types of products we could sure use the tip! Area churches are having supply drives before they send teams of volunteers out.
I was spared damage to my home, but personally know many folks not so lucky! We’re all trying to pitch in and do everything we can!
Thank you so much for posting this. The damage here on all sides of the city is unimaginable. So many people are left with nothing.
I’m gonna go right along with my fellow Nashvillians. I’m SO blessed to be safe and dry still, but have friends who have been devastated – and I don’t know THAT many people. It’s AWFUL, and the economic loss is going to be BILLIONS. Anything that individuals can do to help adds up! The emergency teams were overwhelmed, so INDIVIDUALS got together to help.
Be blessed – and help where you can! 🙂
I am just SOOOooooOooo grateful for you posting this! Thanks to all you couponers out there for your support!
Thank you so much for posting this. This is most likely the most devastating non-hurricane natural disaster in American history and the only ones talking about it are the people who really care. The news is not covering it because they can’t tell stories of looting and stealing. Nashville and the surrounding areas have come together in this tragedy to help each other. We have not used this event for an excuse to go on crime sprees and such. We are the VOLUNTEER STATE and when a neighbor needs help we are there. Don’t get me wrong. Yes we need help. Yes we need supplies and shelters and food and water and so on and on. But the reason you’re not seeing this on tv is because we are busy picking ourselves up and getting back on our feet instead of giving up.
Oh, and one more note. The Publix stores are doing great things to help those in need. One near me has been donating water and cleaning supplies to a small hispanic church next to it that was pretty much washed away. (Just before a renovation dedication next month 🙁 ) That same Publix store had 6″ of water in it that they were dealing with at the same time.
Publix Corporate has donated $100,000 to the Red Cross, they are taking Red Cross donations at the register in TN, GA, SC, and AL and are collecting food donations for Second Harvest.
I Heart Publix, too!
Ditto what everyone else said. Nashville thanks you. And you are helping in other ways too…all the stockpiled toiletries I’d been gathering for months (“WHY DO WE NEED ALL THIS TOOTHPASTE?” my husband would ask…I don’t know…it’s free) has gone to the Red Cross.
I am helping raise $100 for the Red Cross for the flood victims. Here is the link for the post, I just finished: http://tinyurl.com/2ce5t99
Thanks so much for posting this! I have a co-worker who was rescued by boat in Bellevue, and said before the bus took them to the shelter it went by Publix. Publix wanted to give each person water and food to take to the shelter–amazing!!
THANK YOU for posting ways to help. Nashville and some surrounding areas are completely devastated. Anyones help can make a big difference for those affected by the flooding.
Are any of you folks in the Murfreesboro area? We will be in the area on Saturday for Jazzfest (used to live in Nashville and always go to this event) and I’d love to be able to bring a big box of stuff to donate but don’t know where to take it. Just e-mail me at atlswan@hotmail.com. Thanks!
I have big connections across the entire state, lived there for 23 years, and this whole thing is heartbreaking. I donated to Second Harvest. Thanks for posting the links!
Thanks for posting this, Michelle! We made it through the flood fine, and my husband has been helping folks everyday before the rain even stopped. Thanks to all who help out Nashville at this time!
Well, as you can see Michelle, the only ones commenting are those of us in and around Nashville, because, truly? No one really DOES know about the devastation here because the news stations aren’t talking about it. We have to get the word out on our own and drum up relief donations because we’ve been left high and dry (if yuo’ll pardon the pun) by the national media. Even at the coupon blogs, the only people commenting are the Nashvillians.
*sigh*
When Haiti experienced devastation, America responded. When new Oreleans was all but leveled, Americans responded. The list goes on and on. But when Middle and East Tennessee is experiencing one of the worst non-hurricane natural disasters in our country’s history? No one seems to care.
Thanks for posting this, I hope it helps people realize that there is actually a serious situation here.
Middle Tennessee and several other outlying counties are in serious water conservation (no showers or washing dishes or laundry), our economy has taken a HUGE hit due to Gaylord/Opryland Hotel and Convention Center, Opry Mills and the Grand Ole Opry being flooded and unable to accept the conventions scheduled through the busiest travel/convention season: the summer, and we are already up to $1.5 BILLION dollars in estimated losses, and that’s not even counting any of the road problems.
It’s bad.
Really bad.
Thank YOU for posting this! We are also in the middle Tennessee area and our community was completely devastated by the flood. I’ll second what the other commenter’s have said…it’s bad here.
We were without power for a week. We lost all the food in our refrigerators and freezers as well as suffered other damage to our property…however, what we lost doesn’t compare to some our other neighbors in our communities around here who lost everything they own–homes and businesses.
It is unbelievable the damage and loss here! But also more unbelievable is the Volunteer spirit of the people here in the Volunteer State! It’s been encouraging to know that there are good people in the world! Maybe that is not so “news worthy” to the media?
Road problems are still bad…we still can’t get to and from work without using big detours and encountering lots of traffic because of the road situation.
The water situation is still bad…with most in my area still not having water so we are having to use bottled water for drinking and cooking and washing hands etc.
