The only slow cook recipe I make is roast with carrots and potatoes, and it is pretty much my favorite meal EVER! You can check out some of my other recipes if you want to at recipesmademyway.blogspot.com
I don’t do many crock pot meals but the roast recipe on the blog with the “cream of” soup is awesome and super simple π And Publix has the boneless chuck roast for a decent price this week. I may have to make that one again.
If you go to the All You magazine web site there are some awesome slow cooker recipies. My favorite is the pulled pork. It is so easy and so good. Plus, I think it said it comes out to like $1.47 a serving!
We like to throw chicken in the crock pot with a can of tomatoes and serve over egg noodles or rice. Sprinkle with mozzerella cheese. This also works great with salsa instead of the tomatoes for a spicy flavor.
I love my crock pot – use it all the time! Our favorite is bbq chicken…8oz bbq sauce, 4oz italian dressing, 2tbsp worceshire, 2tbsp lime juice, chicken. Put all in crock pot, cook on high 4 hours, or low 6 hours. One of the best things about this recipe is that bbq sauce and italian are always in abundance in my pantry since they go on awesome sale all the time. I normally serve with cornbread and butterbeans. Another favorite is to take one can cream of chicken, one can cream of celery, add in some worceshire, some A1, garlic powder, onion powder, seasoned pepper, salt, bouillion cube…just whatever you want really! Throw pork chops in, cooke 6 hours on high. Another great recipe that turns out a little different every time I cook it is to get a package of stew meat, throw it, along with all your leftover veggies, potatoes, and meats from the week, into the crock pot, can of cream of celery (or whichever cream of you prefer) and leave on low all day. if your leftovers are slim, you can sub in a couple cans veggies, or a couple potatoes. you can also add in any seasonings/sauces you want as well. serve over rice.
I have a good No Fry Stir-Fry using things I got cheap or free.
1 back boil-in-bag rice (don’t remember but it was on sale with a coupon… lol)(or however you fix white rice) prepare as directed.
1/2 or more smoke sausage ($2) cooked on a George Foreman type grill (split in half then cut into bites after cooked)
2 packs of Green Giant boxed veggies (free) (I use the ones with broccoli, carrots, etc. I vary it up.)
Seasonings like Mrs. Dash or Grill Mates, salt, pepper, soy sauce to taste.
Cook it all up like the packages say then mix it in a bowl together and TA DA! Done!!!!
Here’s a crock pot recipe we use in our house all the time!- Chicken and Black Beans: you will need 1 can of black beans, 1 can of Rotel, 1 package of taco seasoning, 1 can of corn, and 1 lb frozen, boneless, skinless chicken breasts. Put the black beans in the crock pot first, lay the frozen chicken breasts on top of the black beans, sprinkle chicken with 1/2 of the package of taco seasoning, pour in the can of Rotel on top of the chicken, then pour in the can of corn (i usually drain some of the juice out first). Cook on high for 8 hours. Shred chicken with a fork when finished cooking. We like to eat it with tortilla chips, but you could also serve it over rice. It makes a ton of food also! Super easy!
made the king’s ranch recipe tonight it was yummy π
If you’re looking for some good crockpot recipes you should definitely check out the Crockpot Lady’s blog, http://crockpot365.blogspot.com/. Her blog has completely changed the way we cook. I’m a big make-ahead-and-freeze enthusiast but throwing the crockpot into the mix has made my life even easier. Generally I cook 3 nights a week and we eat a home cooked meal out of the freezer the other 4. Now I always have at least one crockpot meal as my cooked meal which makes it feel like I’m only cooking twice. I almost feel like a slacker, lol.
The thing I like best about her blog is that she uses mostly natural ingredients. We do Clean Eating only in our house (all natural ingredients with nothing processed or artificial) and I was pleasantly surprised at how many of her recipes I could cook as is without having to substitute stuff. Although I’m like you and I always sneak some extra veggies in π
Our favorites are the turkey cheddar meatballs, mac n’ cheese, and black bean and salsa soup (I add a cup of pureed broccoli to mine). There’s even a creme brulee recipe for when you need a real treat π Fair warning, though, like your site it’s totally addictive.
