This Saturday, May 8th, the USPS is holding a food drive for local food banks. This would be a great time to clean out of your stockpile or buy a few Super Deals to share with others in need!! All you have to do is put your nonperishable items in a bag and leave it at your mailbox! Your mail carrier will make sure the food gets to your local food bank or pantry!
Go HERE for more information.
Here’s a list of some recommended donation items (no glass or expired food):
• Meats: Canned meat (Spam, ham, meat spread, beef stew, chicken, tuna) • Breads & Cereals: Baking mix, muffin mix, dry cereal, oatmeal, grits, rice, pasta noodles, cornmeal, sugar, flour.
• Fruits and Vegetables: Canned fruit (citrus sections, oranges, pineapples, applesauce, apricots), canned juices (tomato, orange, pineapple, grape), canned vegetables, soups, dried fruits (raisins, apricots, prunes) • Miscellaneous: Macaroni and Cheese, spaghetti sauces, boxed juice, peanut butter, canned nuts, jams and jellies.
Thanks to Becky and everyone else who emailed!
If you’re in the Nashville, TN, area, please also consider donating to the flood victims. See Michelle’s other post about that here.
This is a great opportunity to rotate that stockpile. I just hope the mailman has room…..LOL
I just got a plastic bag and a post card in my mailbox today (Marietta, GA) for this event.
I will be doing donating this year for the first time ever. I went to the website and wasn’t able to get my questions answered. I’m hoping that someone here will be able to help. Will they took boxes of cereal that has been opened. I opened the box but not the bag (coupons inside the box). Are they taking dog food? Hungry people have pets too. Thanks.
Made my first donation. It feels good to help others.
Thank to the USPS for this, it literally saved my stockpile!!! If I hadn’t been checking and pulling items to donate, I would never have noticed that a MOUSE has discovered where I store my goods in the basement. Whew, saved me from having to throw a ton away, only 4 items compromised. I can’t imagine if I hadn’t noticed him for a few days or over a week, how many items would have been destroyed. UGH, I hate mice!
