I gave you guys a little heads up earlier this week about my totals when I posted my meal plan. I actually just sat down and compiled my spending this week and I actually did better than I thought I did!! I opted for a few splurge items and had fun today picking berries with the boys!
Every year my playgroup heads to a big farm to pick berries. The kids love it and we get to come home with the freshest fruit ever!! I had thought about pulling my funds from my entertainment budget but I am under budget for the year so I think I will just pull it from the grocery fund. I have over 4 pounds of blackberries, over a pound of strawberries, lemons, butternut squash, and cucumbers. I also picked up some squash, okra and tomatoes from the fruit stand near my house.
I know it seems like I spent a bunch but I have so much to show for my spending it is amazing!! Did you see I have 12 canisters of Ovaltine–woo hoo!! This week I spent $79.72 for $270.71 worth of products!! That means I saved 71% this week. I’d say that is a fabulous total especially with the splurges and all those fresh fruits and veggies!!

I spent $20.88 for $166.30 worth, saved $145.42 = 87%
Hey Michelle – I’d love to know where you went berry-picking at! I live in Smyrna and don’t know of any place arounf here to do it!!
Michelle – I second Missi. I’d love to know where you went. I’m in East Cobb and I’ve read about different blueberry picking places, but I haven’t tried one before. With 3 kids to take with me, I’d love to try a place that is recommended!
Hey guys–we go to Adams Farm in Fayetteville. It is a bit of a haul but it is by far the best that we have been to and I have tried several. The farm is huge and USUALLY this is the best time to go as you can get blackberries, raspberries, strawberries and blueberries –but for some reason the blueberries were not ready. They said maybe next week??! But by then the strawberries will be probably be gone. I am going to call them next week to check prices and compare with a place right here beside me– if the price is good we may actually go back to get the blueberries. I usually do one big pick every year then freeze the fruit and pull it out as we need it. I NEED BLUEBERRIES 🙂
One caution–there are a bunch of grumpy men there and last year they threatened to kick us out because a couple of the boys ran ONCE!! Yes–I am serious!! They had a hissy fit b/c 3 year old boys were playing a little and started running in this big open area and this older guy zoomed over in a golf cart and started screaming at the boys and told us that if we did not get the boys under control that they would kick us out. It was quite inappropriate for the situation…it is funny b/c I went to the upick it site to confirm directions and saw that apparently they do this often as there were a ton of reviews saying the farm is less than kid friendly. So–if you go you will have to make sure the kids are on their very best behavior (no acting their age -tee hee!)
My BEST WEEK EVER!! In all of my shopping I spent $57 and saved $250!!! That just blows my mind!!
Michelle – thanks for the tip. I may leave my 3 year old at home….he is ‘all boy!!’
