Woo hoo I just received an email letting me know that Restaurant.com is offering their gift certificates for 80% off when you use the code SAVEat checkout!! This is my favorite way to save when we got out to eat! Many of you have emailed me to ask how this works…so I thought I would give you an example of what it costs us to go out to a local Mexican restaurant.
- I purchased a $25 gift certificate last month when they were 80% off –I paid $2
- We went to one of our favorite Mexican restaurants and ordered $35+ worth of food (yes I had to order some guacamole dip to get us over the minimum–oh the things I must do to save 😀 )
- I gave the certificate with my debit card and paid $17.77 (which included the 18% tip they added as part of the certificate requirement.)
- Add the $2 that I spent for the certificate and our total was $19.77 for the meal –or around $5 per person!!
That is a great deal–a drink, meal and appetizer for a family of four! My kind of deal AND I got the night out of the kitchen –even better!!
Make sure you read the requirements for your favorite location as each will vary. I am excited as I found a place that offers the gift cards via Restaurant.com AND participates in the Upromise dining program–better believe I will double dip on the savings!!
So for example; if you order $35 worth of food and drinks (non-alcoholic I see ;)), they then add 18% to that total right? Or does you total bill INCLUDING the 18% have to be $35? (I’m not going to worry about where tax fits into this equation because on a $35 check it’s only a measly $2 and some change)
These are great for end of the year gifts. I bought three for my daughter’s preschool teacher, teacher’s assistant, and director! They are so wonderful and we are on a major budget. It was nice to be able to do more than we normally would have! Thanks for the heads up! Tomorrow’s the last day of school and I was at a loss!
i got some for my kids teachers as end of year gifts! thanks for the heads up!
If anyone is in the Orlando area, can you recommend some restaurants from this list that are kid-friendly (menu & staff)
USE CAUTION when ordering these!!! Some of the restaurants no longer accept them. I know this is a legit company to deal with….but….Just to be on the safe side – BEFORE you actually “Buy” any of these dining certificates (especially if you are planning to give them as Gifts)- CALL the restaurant you are considering and ask if they still accept these coupons. I bought a whole stack of these earlier this year, with the intent of giving as Christmas or Birthday gifts…only to find that a large number of the restaurants I had purchased for no longer accepted them…or had gone out of business!! 🙁 Do yourself a favor, and prevent a potentially embarrassing situation, and Call to ask before buying.
Just to add – for those restaurants that DO still accept these coupons – yes, it is a Great deal…and a wonderful way to try out some new kinds of foods you might not have otherwise 🙂
Does anyone know how to get these for just specific restaurants, not any listed in your area? I live in Tuscaloosa, Alabama and there is never a participating restaurant. Birmingham is the closest larger city but they don’t have much to offer either. Thanks…Alice
