You might remember that my buddy Christy from Haphazardly Hobbying is a recent convert to Restaurant.com, and she agreed to do a few posts here on I Heart Publix talking about her experiences using their gift certificates. Her last night out sounds like a ton of fun!
Hi all, Christy here. For the last of my experiences with Restaurant.com, I thought that I would do what any self-respecting deal shopper would do: see just how little I could manage to spend out at dinner! 🙂 I recruited my friend Angela to come out with me one night last month to a little local wine and Italian tapas bar that I discovered on Restaurant.com.
We had the best time…and it was super cheap! We split two tapas plates – a bruschetta and a caprese salad – then we each had a flatbread pizza with a nice glass of wine. The food was fantastic and we really enjoyed our night out. The intimate little bistro was a great place to spend a few hours catching up. We were able to savor each plate that came out and really enjoy our meal.
We managed to spend exactly $40 (which was the requirement to use the certificate), and after gratuity was added and the gift certificate subtracted, our bill was just $22.20! Even when you add the cost of a $25 certificate (at 60% off as you can almost always find them), that works out to just $13.10 per person. What a fabulous price tag for a really nice evening out with a friend!
I have to say that my adventures with Restaurant.com have really been a lot of fun and I will never look at dining out quite the same way. Before I started using their service I just assumed that most meals out were a non-negotiable cost – but now I know that I can usually get myself an awesome discount if I do just a few minutes’ surfing on Restaurant.com. Thanks to all of you for sharing in the experience!
Right now on Restaurant.com you save 60% on their certificates when you use the code “SNOW” at checkout.
Restaurant.com provided the gift certificate for Christy’s review. All comments and opinions are Christy’s!
I used my first Restaurants.com certificate for a nice evening with my husband. We went to a restaurant we never would have eaten had I not purchased the certificate. Thanks Michelle for the encouragement on getting on the bandwagon.
Christy sounds like a great girls night!!
Restaurant.com is letting you send free $10 certificates to anyone you want! You can send up to 40 certificates a day until 12/31.

If you search restaurant.com coupon codes ahead of time you can usually get them for 80% off. I bought $45.00 of gift certs from restaurant.com for less than $10.00
I’m glad that Restaurant.com exists, but, as it is right now, it’s pretty much useless for me. There’s only one restaurant in town that you can buy certificates for and it’s so high-end that it’s almost not worth going there. I’ve not eaten there yet b/c it’s so overpriced. I hope others have better luck.
Has anybody gone thru ebates for this? I just noticed they offer 15% cash back so i was just wondering if its for the final price we pay… or the full price of the certificate?
Nicole it is the price you pay, still worth it though even if it is only a few cents back, they add up, eventually, lol.
I’m sorry if this is a dumb question, but if a restaurant has a minimum amount required, say $50, does that mean your tab has to reach $50 and then you can use the gift cards to subtract from that? Or do you have to pay at least $50 and then be able to use the gift cards on anything over that?
Jamie your total has to reach a minimum of 50, then the certificate comes off the total.
