Publix Corporate determines the ‘Mystery’ item a month in advance. Sometimes stores do not order adequate quantities of the ‘mystery’ product and will substitute something they have leftover from another promotion.

Just got back from the Publix on HWY 96 in Kathleen, GA… the penny item was Kraft American cheese.
