The holiday baking season is in full swing. While I spend a fair amount of time in the kitchen on any given week, during the holiday season I practically live in that room.
I stay busy making lots of holiday goodies for my family and friends. There’s lots of cookies, cake and pies… and of course those big holiday meals. My oven gets a serious workout! But every minute I spend cooking is totally worth it when I see the smiles on my loved ones faces.
One of my favorite things to bake is bread! Sweet, savory or a combination—it really doesn’t matter to me! Of course I want all my breads to be full of flavor and come out perfectly every time. That’s why I choose Crisco Oil as one of my essential ingredients. No matter what you are cooking, Crisco Oil will help you make it deliciously and successfully!
It’s the must-have oil for one of my family’s favorite breads—Cranberry-Orange Bread! While it screams holiday, it’s actually something I make year round. The combination of flavors are bright and super flavorful. It works great for a snack, breakfast or even dessert. A simple glaze can transform this into a sweet treat that just can’t be beat.
My recipe makes two loaves but I’ll often divide the batter and make one loaf AND a batch of muffins. That way we have choices…. slice and serve or grab and go.
- 3 1/3 cups flour
- 2 cups sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 cup orange juice
- zest of 1 orange
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 cup Crisco Oil
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 4 eggs
- 1 1/2 cups fresh cranberries chopped or halved
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
- Spray two standard loaf pans (8-1/2 x 4-1/2 x 2-1/2) with cooking spray. If making muffins, line the pan with paper liners.
- Add the dry ingredients – flour, salt, baking powder and sugar – to a bowl and mix to combine. Set aside.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the orange juice, zest, buttermilk, Crisco oil, vanilla and eggs.
- Slowly add the dry ingredients into the wet and gently mix to combine.
- Fold in the cranberries and pour into prepared pans
- Bake 60 – 75 minutes, or until an inserted knife comes out clean.
With three varieties available in the baking aisle at your local Publix, you can choose the perfect oil for your cooking needs.
- Crisco Pure Vegetable Oil
- Crisco Pure Canola Oil
- Crisco Blends Oil – A blend of canola, sunflower, and soybean oils
Head over to Publix and grab a bottle and get baking! Be sure to try my Cranberry-Orange Bread (or muffins) when you are hankering for a fresh baked treat that’s packed with big flavor.
Made it on Christmas day and it was a bit hit. I was able to share it with many people and they all loved it. Thank you Michelle for sharing.
