My new year’s resolutions this year included saving more money and losing weight. Well… I am doing GREAT saving money but my quest to lose weight is not progressing as I would like!!
My buddy Sheril over at Your Future Figure has a great post that I thought would be great to share with you all as it really gave me a new perspective. Sheril confessed while shopping one day she looked at her thighs in the dressing room mirror and was down in the dumps afterward. How many of you all can relate to that one…I know I can.
Sheril quickly points out that those mirrors in the dressing room are not a true measure of health and well being. Sometimes we need to re-evaluate. A mirror is not the only method (or even the most accurate) means to evaluate wellness and health!! It’s nice to be reminded that perspective is needed at times!!

That is exactly what happened to me when I went shopping for Disney Social Media Moms. I have not eaten any carbs for almost a week now. Just meat, fruit, veggies, and nuts. I am down 3 lbs! It may kill me but these thighs will get smaller. I also love Winsor Pilates. It is great for thinning your thighs! Good luck!
It was one of those mirror moments that kicked me into losing 90 lbs. I was changing in a Target dressing room with mirrors that allowed me to see my back…and I saw the fat rolls on my back! I sat down and cried. I started thinking about my health, how all the overweight women in my family get type 2 diabetes, and how I couldn’t keep up with my younger fiance (now my husband) and his little girl.
I joined Weight Watchers and it has worked well for me. I’ve kept my weight off over a year, and I think about food totally differently. Food exists to sustain life – not to entertain me or lift boredom.
Good luck to all you who wish to get rid of pounds. You can do it!
I struggled with it too, until I also realized I should be applying the same aggressive discipline with couponing to the things I put into my body. Stockpiling is only good monetarily if we aren’t stockpiling our stomachs too. Otherwise it doesn’t matter how much money you save, you are just eating it away.
That epiphany has been my reality check for the past few weeks.
I lost a little over 30 pounds last year. About three or four have creeped back on, but I am still a size 8 rather than a size 14! I have never been this small and cannot tell you how much better it feels to be free of the weight of low self-esteem. I ran a 5K last year in addition to losing the weight and now am training for a 10K. I still look in the mirror at my thighs and lament the cellulite, but I have to remember that is where the women in my family carry their weight. It doesn’t change the fact that I have lost 30 pounds! I also love What Not to Wear and totally agree with Stacy and Clinton that size should not define you. I have size 6, 8, and 10 pants from Ann Taylor Loft, all different cuts and therefore different fits. Old Navy fits smaller than ATL and so I know that I need to try everything on. I am so proud to be feeling better about myself — FINALLY!
Ladies,It’s good to hear that there are others out there who can relate. Also, good to hear your stories of weight loss and a little good old-fashioned “kicking yourself in the but.” Ladies, don’t forget to get your free “Weight Loss Success Secrets” report (right column) on my blog–www.yourfuturefigure.com
@Jennifer – awesome job! I ran a relay Triathlon last year. It was lots of fun. Keep up the good work.
@Laura – great thought. Whatever you decide to do, make sure that it is something you can continue as a lifestyle. Quick weight loss will only be lost weight for a short time.
@Andrea – WOW! You Go, girl! I pray you keep your figure for the rest of your future.
@Amanda – Great job! Take it slow so that your weight will be more likely to stay off.
